Viscosupplements on the market/ in development

ArthroVisc Kit (RegenLab, Switzerland) is a hyaluronic acid treatment for OA. The company claim that intra -articular injections of HA can restore the concentration of HA in OA joints providing pain relief and increased mobility.

CellularMatrix PRP-HA (RegenLab, Switzerland) is a treatment for OA that combines HA for treatment of pain and mobility with HA with PRP to stimulate surrounding cells for tissue repair.

DUROLANE (BioVentus, USA) has been approved in the EU for the symptomatic treatment associated with mild to moderate osteoarthritis pain in the ankle, shoulder, elbow, wrist, fingers and toes.

EUFLEXXA® (1% sodium hyaluronate) marketed by Ferring Pharmaceuticals in the USA, is indicated for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis, to improve movement and reduce pain.

Gel-One Hyaluronate (ZimmerBiomet) is an injectable hyaluronate for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee.

HYALGAN is manufactured by Fidia Farmaceutici (Italy). It is indicated for the treatment of pain in osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee.

Hynoval® (Swiss Biomed Orthopaedics) is a fermented source sodium hyaluronate used for viscosupplementation in synovial joints as treatment of the early stages of osteoarthritis.

JointVisc™ (Canada) is a HA injection for the treatment of OA currently under development by OglioMedic.

MONOVISC® High Molecular Weight Hyaluronan (DePuy Synthes Mitek Sports Medicine, USA) is a FDA approved treatment made from ultra-pure hyaluronan. MONOVISC Hyaluronan is a NON-AVIAN sourced viscosupplement with lasting efficacy for up to 6 months with a single injection.

ORTHOVISC® Hyaluronan (DePuy Synthes Mitek Sports Medicine, USA) is indicated for the treatment of pain in osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee in patients who have failed to respond adequately to conservative nonpharmacologic therapy and simple analgesics. ORTHOVISC® Hyaluronan may enhance the viscoelastic properties of synovial fluid to relieve pain and increase mobility. It is a NON-AVIAN sourced viscosupplement with lasting efficacy for up to 6 months.

OPTIVISC is a synthetic HA marketed (by Ivy Sports Medicine, Germany) for treatment of OA, improve joint mobility and reduce pain sensitivity for up to 6 months.

SUPARTZ (BioVentus, USA) delivers up to 125 mg of sodium hyaluronate per 5-injection series. It is indicated for treatment of pain in osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee in the US and has been used since 1987.

Synvisc® (hylan G-F 20) by Sanofi (USA) is used as a temporary replacement and supplement for synovial fluid to treat pain associated with OA of the hip and knee. 

Synvisc-One (hylan G-F 20) is in clinical trials at Sanofi as a next-generation, single-injection viscosupplementation product for treating pain associated with OA.
